Learning on the move...

Exploring the world through hands on investigation is how we construct knowledge. Working together with those around us helps to both increase and test what we understand.

At FACS ELC, we seek to provide an environment that supports the educational success and spiritual well-being of our students.

Serving preschoolers from ages 32 months to 5 years.

Children ages 32 months (by August) and up will take part in our Room to Room program. Rather than be grouped into a one teacher-one classroom structure, our students spend the day actively engaged in learning centers: The Lab, The Library, The Studio and The Workshop (See details below). We also have a fifth rotation of bible time each day..

Each room has a resident teacher who will guide the children in activities designed to inspire curiosity and build skill. Our emergent curriculum revolves around developmentally-appropriate learning standards and child-inspired concept themes

The Workshop

Play is the work of children. It’s the way by which they put all the information they learn together and make it a reality. The Workshop is a place where the children can role-play and re-enact skills and habits that interest them. The room will be arranged into 3-4 different role-playing centers which will change each month. The areas might include a doctor’s office, a bakery, a home or a post office. Each center will be stocked with tools and materials that encourage imaginative play. This is where crucial social and emotional skills are practiced and honed as children step into roles where they work and play together.

The Studio

The Studio serves as a room where children can explore different forms are artistic creativity including painting, drawing, working with clay, experimenting with different textures and materials, and using tools. These activities build fine-motor skills which are crucial to muscle development for writing. They will also build gross-motor skills, coordination and an understanding of rhythm and cadence through music and dance. Expression through art and music is a fundamental part of how preschoolers learn and communicate.

The Library

This room focuses on building language and literacy skills. Success in reading and writing is best achieved in a literacy-rich environment. As children move from our infant and toddler groups where language skills are encouraged through conversation and story-reading, they will begin to explore phonics through letter and word recognition, rhymes and poetry, and pre-writing activities. As they progress, they will build on these concepts to begin reading and writing. By using a curriculum that promotes both teacher-directed activities and independent practice, children can work at their own pace while teachers ensure the highest learning standards are maintained.

The Lab

This room is devoted to the discovery of math and science concepts. Through a balance of guided activities and independent exploration, children will learn skills such as one-to-one counting, number recognition and quantity concepts. They will engage in hands-on investigation of natural materials and experiment with scientific concepts such as measurement and weight, categorizing and sorting, observation and prediction. These concepts build an early foundation in critical thinking and reasoning which support long-term success.

Bible Time

The fifth rotation is a time for each group to sit, listen, learn, and sing about all the bible teaches us. Through stories, scriptures, activities, and videos, our Bible Time Teacher creates an age-appropriate devotion for each group, giving them a chance to connect with God's Word and our Christian faith. They have weekly themes and bible verses to practice with each other, some of which will be shared at our End of the Year Program in May.
